Honey oil lab explosion leaves neighbors without a home

Posted

Neighbors are still picking up the pieces following a honey oil lab explosion in south Bakersfield.

It happened Friday night near Sparks and Price Streets.

Felipe Ponce was sleeping in her bed when the house next door exploded.

The explosion blew out her windows and caused her wall and parts of her roof to cave in.

Two people at the home where the explosion happened were injured an taken to the hospital.

While Ponce says she is happy to be alive, she now has to find somewhere for her family of eight to live.

The power and gas at her home has been turned off and building and code enforcement officials have yellow- tagged her home because they say the structure has been compromised and it is not safe to live in.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office and the Bakersfield City Fire Department are investing the case.

So far, no arrests have been made.
