Human Services building evacuated after person claimed they had explosives in backpack

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Department of Human Services building was evacuated after a person claimed they had explosives in their backpack.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a subject came in, threatened the staff, and said they had explosives in a backpack.

The Human Services building was evacuated.

BPD says the subject was taken into custody without incident. BPD says no explosives have been found at this time.

BPD says Bomb Squad was not called out. According to BPD, the investigation is ongoing.
