As the 125th Labor Day celebration kicks of across the country, hundreds here in Kern County spent their day off at Hart Park.

Barbecues, games and water sports were among the festivities families enjoyed in the triple digit heat.

Several people at the park told 23ABC News that their favorite part about Labor Day is spending time with family.

Valeria Ramirez said enjoying quality time with her family was long overdue.

"We don't really get to see each other that much, because we all live in different places," Ramirez said. "So this is perfect. This type of holiday gives us time," together.

Dozens of children played in the water throughout the day.

Kern County Search and Rescue said there hasn't been any drownings or incidents in the Kern River throughout the holiday weekend, but crews remain on standby.
