It's been months in the making but Bakersfield police patrol vehicles and city fire engines will now display American flags with the "In God We Trust" decal. Pastor Angelo Frazier was one of the people who presented the idea to the Bakersfield City Council.

Frazier was at the ceremony Thursday along with Police Chief Lyle Martin, Fire Chief Anthony Galagaza and City Councilmember Jacquie Sullivan to commemorate the new additions.

Frazier says he pushed for these to promote patriotism, to support law enforcement and first responders, and to remind people of our guiding principle.

"I think this is a great opportunity for us. Not just the police and first responders because they are our present-day heroes but for everyone to display "In God We Trust" with the flag because that will bring us together. I believe it will."

The decals were paid for by private donations and did not cost the city.
