An inmate died after being transported to the Lerdo Facility on May 18th.

The inmate was being transported from the Justice Court Facility at around 2 p.m.  

When the inmate was found to be unresponsive medical staff and medical aid were called. The inmate was then transported to San Joaquin Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Sheriff's Office detectives responded to investigate the death, which is standard procedure, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office. 

The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. 

The Kern County Coroner will be releasing the name of the inmate at a later time.
