An inmate went missing from Taft Correctional Institution’s Minimum Security Satellite Camp Monday.

Staff noticed the missing individual after conducting an official count Monday afternoon.

The inmate is 36-year-old John Barrena-Jerez. He is described as a white male of Hispanic origin, 5’ 7” tall, and approximately 267 pounds. He goes by the aliases John Barrena, El Gordo, and John Barrena Jerez.

Barrena-Jerez was sentenced to 120 months of federal custody for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine on March 2, 2012.

The Satellite Camp is a minimum-security facility that houses around 550 low risk federal inmates with shorter sentences. The facility does not have a perimeter security fence or armed posts.

Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshals Service, or any law enforcement agency.
