Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Survey hopes to make Bakersfield streets safer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A 2019 study ranks the city of Bakersfield at seventh in the nation on a list of the most dangerous areas for walking.

The study found that between 2008 and 2017, 13 pedestrians a day were killed due to accidents on the road. The city of Bakersfield is using a new interactive survey to combat this, but the survey won’t be around forever.

Community members can go to an online survey with an interactive map and submit areas that are unsafe or in need of improvement.

The survey will be live until July 15. After that the city will begin to service areas based on need. You can fill out the survey here.
