Investigators believe the suspect in the investigation involving ATM skimmers is working with several people throughout California, Bakersfield Police said Friday.
BPD said they believe the suspect, a white male, 20-30 years of age with a heavy build and a thick mustache and beard is conspiring with several accomplices to place ATM card skimmers inside electronic gas pump card reader consoles at gas stations. These skimmers can duplicate an ATM card and pin information.
Once the information is duplicated, the suspects are able to utilize the information to access victims's bank accounts.
BPD has seized an ATM skimming device similar to the ones pictured.
Officials are urging people to regularly check their bank account for unusual activity and pay with cash whenever possible. Business owners with electronic card reader consoles, particularly gas pumps, should routinely check for similar skimmer devices as pictured.
If a card skimmer is located at your business, contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
