19-year-old Ayled Chavez accused of covering up her son's death, lying to police when she contacted them back in April saying her son had been kidnapped will stand trial.

A judge has decided that she is competent to stand trial.

Police say after questioning Chavez, she began to change her story and ultimately led police to her son's body that had been buried in the Kern River Canyon.

Police say Chavez left her son in the care of her ex-boyfriend Kaleb Kessinger. She says when she returned home she saw her son sleeping but told the detective she noticed her son had trauma to his head and face. This is when police say Chavez told them she convinced Kessinger to get the boy medical attention, but on the way to the hospital, he stopped breathing. Chavez then told police they went back home leaving the boy in the car and went to sleep. It was the next morning they buried his body in the Kern River canyon.

Today-- the judge said chavez will stand trial and set a preliminary hearing date for this Wednesday, where she is expected to appear alongside Kessinger.

Both are charged with murder.
