KERN COUNTY, Calif. — Tuesday animal shelters across the United States are pledging not to euthanize any adoptable animals for one whole day. And Kern County Animal Services is joining that pledge.

“Every year the response we get from this community is amazing. Bright, cheery folks come into our shelters happy to save a life and adopt a new family member. Last year we placed nearly 100 animals into forever homes in just one day, on Just One Day!” stated Animal Services Director Nick Cullen.

All dog and cat adoptions will be reduced to just $11 and the shelter will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. They're located at 3951 Fruitvale Avenue. Also, the Mojave shelter and the Lake Isabella shelters will be participating. And they'll be open from 10 a.m until 4 p.m.

Kern County Animal Services also wanted to remind the community that adopting an animal isn't the only way they can participate.

"KCAS has a strong Volunteer Program, a life-saving Foster Program, and information and services are available for spay and neuter resources."
