Kern County Fire Department’s Helicopter 408 flew two missions today including a patient rescue and flood damage assessment.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, the helicopter responded to rescue a patient who suffered serious injuries from an off-road motorcycle accident. The crash happened two and a half miles east of Kelso Valley Road.

Ground crews got to the scene to help with emergency medical care until the helicopter transported the patient to a trauma center.

At 10 a.m. this morning, officials used the helicopter to assess flood damage near Caliente Creek due to rain.
