Kern County Fire crews put out a fire in an empty lot early Wednesday morning in east Bakersfield. 

KCFD said the call came in at 3:55 a.m. of a fire in an empty grass lot at 601 Burnette Drive, near Virginia Avenue County Park.

Fire crews put out the half-acre fire in just a few minutes. The flames thankfully missed the park, nearby homes, and Mt. Vernon Elementary School, KCFD said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
