KCFD rescues 8 cats, 3 dogs from trailer fire in Ridgecrest

Posted

Firefighters with the Kern County Fire Department rescued 8 cats and 3 dogs from a trailer fire in Ridgecrest on Sunday afternoon.

Crews responded to reports of a grass fire on Ridgecrest Boulevard at about noon on Sunday; when they arrived, they found a grass fire in the yard of a trailer park that quickly spread to a nearby trailer.

An aggressive fire attack allowed firefighters to enter the structure and save 8 dogs from inside and 3 dogs from the yard. Firefighters then administered oxygen to the cats until animal control arrived. All animals are reportedly in good condition and in the care of Ridgecrest Animal Control.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, and the fire was knocked down quickly. Loss to the structure was estimated at $30,000 with approximately $10,000 saved.
