Saturday the Kern County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with Freddy’s Frozen Custards in honor of Autism Awareness month.

Freddy’s Frozen Custards in Northwest Bakersfield offered free ice cream to all special needs citizens who showed up between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The public was also welcomed to the event.

KCSO provided information about its Smart 911 program to families as well. The program helps bridge the gap between 911 dispatchers and callers through the use of extra personal information registered with KCSO.

People who are non-verbal and or have any other type of special need can now include that in their Smart 911 profile so that when dispatchers receive their call, officials will know ahead of time of any additional support him or her may need.
