The Kern County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying an on-duty KCSO deputy working in Tehachapi reportedly was under the influence of drugs while working.

KCSO said September 15, other deputies noticed Deputy Lewis White appeared to display symptoms of recent drug use. Narcotics detectives determined White was under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested.

White was also evaluated by California Highway Patrol officers to investigate if he was driving under the influence of narcotics while on duty. They were unable to determine if he was driving under the influence.

White was booked into the Central Receiving Facility for violations of two Heath and Safety Codes including being under the influence of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.

White has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative internal investigation.
