The Kern County Sheriff's Office is working to determine what caused an infant to die Sunday night.

According to KCSO, deputies were dispatched to a home on Bryant Street in the Rexland Acres area at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday for a report that an infant was not breathing.

Before deputies could arrive, Hall Ambulance personnel showed up and began performing life-saving measures. The infant was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

KCSO detectives have taken over the active, ongoing investigation.
