Homicide detectives were called out to an empty lot in Oildale regarding a suspicious death.

Officials said around 11:00 Monday morning they received a call from someone who lives in the area who had found a dead body at 340 McCord Ave which is near Plymouth Ave.

When deputies arrived on scene they found a badly decomposed adult body.

Ray Pruitt, the public information officer for KCSO, said it appears the body has been here for at least several days.

"We have homicide investigators on scene and we have initiated and investigation into the person's death although at this point we don't know what the person's cause and manner of death is," said Pruitt.

KCSO said it has not been able to determine if there was any trauma to the body because of the level of decomposition.

The body was found outside of the two abandoned structures that are on the property.

KCSO said it did not appear that the person was living or squatting in the abandoned building.

The Kern County Coroner's Office arrived and took the body. An autopsy will be scheduled to positively identify the body and determine the cause and manner of death.

KCSO said there has not been any calls for service at that address in the last six months.

The mobile home park next to the property has only had one call for service in the last six months. It was on February 8, 2017 for a female who was heard screaming in the area. KCSO said deputies were unable to locate the woman and cleared the call.

KCSO is asking anyone with information to call them at 861-3110 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.
