A Bakersfield man is in the hospital after a homemade explosive blew up in his hand, starting an investigation that would result in the safe detonation of multiple bombs in Bakersfield.

The explosion that caused major hand injuries for the man happened in Tulare County; after the man was admitted to a Delano hospital around 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Tulare County Sheriffs began an investigation.

Kern County Sheriffs and Bakersfield Police joined the investigation after the man's workplace and home were found to be within their jurisdiction.

His workplace is located in West Bakersfield near the intersection of Rosedale Highway and Wegis Ave.

His home is on the 3000 block of Cornell; both locations contained improvised explosive devices that were detonated by KCSO and BPD bomb squads late last night and early this morning.

Neighbors say that the man is a welder and that his workplace is a construction area.

One man who was at the house at the time of the search has been arrested, but it's not the same man who was hurt by the explosion. That man is currently recovering from his injuries.

No information has been released on either men at this time.
