Kern County Sheriff deputies rescued a woman out of the Kern River Friday afternoon.

Kern County Sgt. Stephen Wells said that the woman was floating in an inner tube in Kernville, when she flipped over. Sgt. Wells said that the woman was rescued from the water in about ten minutes of the call to KCSO.

Deputies said they plan on updating their sign a the mouth of the canyon on HWY 178 recording how many people have died in the Kern River next week. Last year 15 more people died in the river, tying the single year record for deaths set in 1985. Deputies are reminding people to be extra careful with the Kern River, especially with summer approaching.
