KCSO: Rifle grenade found on property in Southeast Bakersfield

UPDATE: September 27, 2018 2:22 p.m.) According to Fairfax, the lockdown at Shirley Lane and Zephyr Lane elementary schools occurred at 1:15 p.m. KCSO asked the schools to lockdown for a "potential explosive device in a house across the street"

The lockdown at Zephyr Lane was lifted pretty quickly and kids from Shirley Lane were bussed to Zephyr Lane where they were dismissed from school. All lock downs have been lifted at this time.

KCSO was called out to a house in Southeast Bakersfield after a rifle grenade was found on a property.

KCSO was called out to the 4000 block of Shirley Lane in Southeast Bakersfield around 12:30 p.m. According to KCSO, the caller informed them that they were going through items on the property when they found a rifle grenade. KCSO showed up and determined that the round was a practice round and not live. 

Bomb squad is still on-scene. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Shirley Lane Elementary was placed on lockdown around 1:15 p.m. Zephyr Lane was also placed on lockdown for a brief period. Shirley Lane Elementary students were bused to Zephyr Lane Elementary. Both lockdowns have been lifted.
