(UPDATE 5:45 p.m.) The Kern County Sheriff's Office is now considering the search for 27-year-old Jared Andrews a recovery mission.
According to KCSO, this is the first major recovery mission of the season, after a recording 15-drownings last year.
Search and Rescue will continue looking for Andrews and are utilizing new technology in the recovery efforts.
The Kern County Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams are searching the Kern River for a man last in Keyesville, near Lake Isabella.
Officials say Jared Andrews was seen falling off a rock into the Kern River and was last seen by witnesses at about 10:50 a.m. Saturday floating face down and believed to be unconscious, several hundred yards downriver from where he entered the water.
Initially, crews were notified of two men that had gone missing in the Kern River. They were later able to determine that only one man was missing, who was later identified as Andrews.
Crews searched by boat, ground and air and the Kern County Fire Department is also assisting. Andrews remains missing and the operation will pick back up on Sunday morning.
