KCSO still investigating last week's butane honey oil lab explosion, two occupants hospitalized

On November 4, 2016 at about 10:30 p.m., Kern County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Price Street in southeast Bakersfield, just west of the canal, for a report of a structure fire and large explosion.

Upon arrival they found a residence that was partially engulfed in flames and with major structural damage. There were three occupants inside the residence at the time of the explosion.

Two of the occupants were transported to a local hospital with major burns. The third occupant was not injured.

Upon further investigation by firefighters and fire arson investigators, it was determined the explosion and fire were the result of a butane honey oil laboratory explosion. No arrests have been made at this point in the investigation

The investigation into the explosion and fire is ongoing, and is being investigated jointly by the Sheriff’s Office California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team and the Bakersfield City Fire Department.
