KCSO warns against latest phone scam

KERN COUNTY, Calif. — KCSO officials are warning the community to watch out for the latest phone scam.

The scam works like this, a person claiming to be with the Kern County Sheriff's Office calls and/or leaves a voicemail regarding a missed court date, saying a warrant will be issued if the victim does not return their call. The scammers leave a callback number with a recording that says it is the Sheriff's Office, even using names of actual employees of KCSO.

Officials say, however, this is a scam.

They say, anyone who receives a call from an unknown person requesting money should research the matter before providing any money or personal information.

If you receive suspicious phone calls that you believe to be a scam, you are urged to contact KCSO at (661) 861-3110 and report the incident.
