Kennedy High School in Delano honored one of their own tonight, a former basketball star that died last weekend in a car accident.
Ali Sakr was just 19-years old. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 2014 but the impact he left on the students and staff was felt as he was honored tonight.
It was an emotional night for the Kennedy Thunderbirds, marking the end of a difficult week.
The Thunderbirds dedicated their game to 19-year-old Ali Sakr a former thunderbird team captain. His brother, Omar, is on the team now, and played for the first time since the death. Their mother watched from the stands.
But before the game, his family was honored with Ali's home and away jerseys and instead of a moment of silence, there was a standing ovation that lasted several minutes.
After the game the team moved outside where they set up a candlelight vigil and a poster filled with hand written messages.
The thunderbirds did pull out the victory for Ali, beating Arvin 57 to 43.
