The Kern County Animal Services is reminding pet parents about safety tips for pets during Halloween.
- Secure your dog away from the door so they don't get scared by trick-or-treaters and try to bite someone or escape.
- Distract your pet with a favorite toy.
- Turn on the TV or play soft music in the pet's room to mask the sounds of Halloween activities.
- Close the drapes so your pets don't see people walking by windows and become stressed.
- If you dog barks at the doorbell, disconnect it or watch for trick-or-treaters so they won't rig the bell or knock at the door.
- Keep all pets indoors (cats, too) so they won't get spooked and run away.
- Make sure your pet has current identification and a microchip in case they do escape out the front door.
