In honor of "Just One Day", Kern County Animal Services are offering $11 adoptions today until 8 p.m.
"Just One Day" takes place every year on June 11 and urges animal shelters across the nation to pledge not to euthanize any animals for the entire day. From their website:
"A day is 24 hours. A day can be something we look forward to, but in U.S. animal shelters, a day represents 10,411 lives needlessly lost. To most people, June 11 is just a day. But June 11, 2016 is a day that will change everything for more than 10,000 companion animals, and a day that can change the world."
KCAS is participating in the pledge for its 4th consecutive year. The $11 adoption special runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., an 11 hour window.
If you live closer to the Mojave or Lake Isabella shelters, they'll be participating as well until 4 p.m.
KCAS is currently in the midst of moving towards no-kill status. In the meantime, they want to remind the public that fostering and volunteering are great ways to help shelter pets if you aren't able to adopt.
