Twenty years ago Lengthwise Brewing Company opened their doors. But it took about sixteen years for them to have any competition.

In the last three years Bakersfield has seen two more breweries open, Temblor Brewing Company and Dionysus Brewing Company. There are an additional three breweries, Kern River Brewing Company, Local Craft Beer and Black Gold Brewing Company, for a total of six breweries in Kern County.

With expanding and new breweries in Kern County that means more jobs locally. Temblor's CEO/President Don Bynum estimates the local craft beer industry has created a $15 million dollar a year industry and employees about 150-200 people locally.

Jeff Williams, who's one of Lengthwise's co-owners, thinks there's plenty of space in Kern County for the craft beer industry to grow. He says Kern County can easily support 20 to 30 breweries, which would employ around 500 people.
