Kern County businesses raising funds for flood relief

Local businesses are pitching in to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

One of those businesses, Empyrean Care, is a medical marijuana dispensary located in central Bakersfield.

"Whatever we can do to help, as long as we gotta do it to ensure they're fine over there, we'll do it," said manager Steven Leyva.

The dispensary features a box for customers to donate, with employees encouraging people inside to help with the relief efforts after Texas was slammed by Harvey. They began accepting donations today, and will continue to do so for an unspecified amount of time.

"I know a lot of people probably look down on [the marijuana business], especially here in Bakersfield, but we're just trying to show that we're trying to help out and do our part too," Leyva said.

Donations can be made at the dispensary at 2730 Brundage Lane. Employees said they'll be sending the donated funds to the Red Cross.
