BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — There are new details concerning the Kern County Fair in 2021. Kern County Fair officials said the fair could return this fall although it will be drastically different from years before due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

23ABC reached out to the Fair Board and they confirmed they are currently planning this year's fair with the fair set to run from September 22nd until October 3rd.

A representative for the fair said their biggest focus is making sure that our youth livestock exhibitors have an in-person show this year. All livestock shows were virtual last year.

"We have been working with the state to make sure that an in-person livestock show will happen, so we are getting excited for that. Our livestock catalog was just approved by our Board of Directors this week so we hope to get it online for the exhibitors soon," said Chelsey Roberts with the Kern County Fair.

The representative said this year's fair will be much smaller with the top priority being safety for all those that take part.

"Our highest priority is the health and safety of our community. Because of that, we know that our annual fair will be a smaller, safer celebration. As we navigate through the rapidly changing restrictions on public events, we will be ready to bring Kern County an event September 22 - October 3, 2021," added Roberts.

Currently, the fairgrounds are being utilized as a mass COVID-19 vaccination site.
