A vacant apartment fire left $65,000 in damages Saturday night.
The Kern County Fire Department responded to the are of Madre St. and Santa Maria Dr. around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a structure fire at a 5-plex apartment complex.
The first arriving engines were faced with fire coming from a single unit, with two rooms involved and the fire spreading to the attic. The were two other adjacent apartment complexes threatened by the fire.
Fire crews quickly started fire fighting operations and initiated a search inside the home. An "all clear" on the primary search was confirmed. Fire crews extinguished the fire in the involved unit in approximately 15 minutes and prevented the fire from spreading to the other threatened apartment complexes. The involved unite was vacant and no one was displaced.
