Kern County Fire Department battles wildland fire that claims 62-acres in Lebec

Kern County Fire Department firefighters are working to contain a fire on Lebec Road between Lebec Oaks and Clear Canyon Road. 

Officials say they received multiple calls at around 1:30 p.m Sunday. A total of 200 personal responded to the flames. Ground units attached the fire and received help from four helicopters and four fixed wing aircrafts dropping water and flame retardant. 

Bulldozers and hand-crews are also on scene. Officials say the fire has claimed a total of 62-acres and is currently 85 percent contained with full containment expected Monday morning. 

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents living in high fire hazard areas to make sure they maintain the defensible space around their homes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
