UPDATE (10:28 AM): Kern County Fire Department said just before 8 a.m. Wednesday they received reports of a smell of gas odor at Vista High School on Rosedale Highway. Firefighters using meters later determined that no gas was detected, said KCFD.

KCFD Capt. Andrew Freeborn said they also received reports that people were feeling sick from the odor and more fire and medical units were sent to the school.

Maintenance workers at the school and firefighters worked to shut off the gas to the school buildings to ensure the gas was shut off, said Freeborn. Using meters, no gas was detected, said Freeborn. Three buildings were evacuated as a precaution, according to KCFD.

Kern County Fire Department is investigating a possible gas leak Wednesday morning at Vista West High School.

Students complained of a strange smell after arriving on campus and KCFD was notified, said Kern High School District. Students and staff were moved outside the building as a precaution, according to KHSD.
