BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol is looking for a suspect after an SUV crashed into a fence in Oildale near Meadows Field Airport.
Multiple agencies responded overnight after a call came out to Kern County Fire for multiple planes on fire near the airport. When they arrived they found no planes on fire, but an SUV and a grass area were in flames. The driver of the SUV was nowhere to be found.
Fire officials say they were able to get the fire under control quickly, largely due to a quick response.
"We had a very quick response. We were able to utilize our station which is located here at the airport, so crews only had to go across the runway and get it under control."
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
Officials said if the SUV had broken further into the fence and onto the airport property, the driver would be facing a felony offense. This investigation is ongoing and we will continue to update you as information becomes available.
