Firefighters work to contain large fire near Kern National Wildlife Refuge, 2500 acres burned

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Fire Incident Commander is requesting portions of Corcoran Road along the Refuge to be closed to non emergency traffic due to a fire in the area of the Kern National Wildlife Refuge.

Kern County firefighters are continuing to work against strong winds in the area and are coordinating with Cal Fire to protect a threatened structure.

Officials say that air resources have been released and that firefighters are still working to contain the fire. At this time, Kern County Fire is reporting the fire to be at 2500 acres with 25 percent containment.
