BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Fire Department's Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls around 12:49 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 for an interior fire in a mobile home in the Lake of the Woods Mobile Village.

According to officials, when they arrived they found the fire threatening vehicles and other homes on three sides. After accountability for residents, they began to extinguish the fire and search for family pets. Firefighters were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire and no homes were damaged nor were any injuries reported.

During fire suppression, one dog was rescued from the home, however four dogs, one cat and a rabbit perished in the fire. Three cats are still missing but were witnessed running from the fire.
