Kern County law enforcement and county officials will honor peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty this week
Kern County will honor the 57 fallen officers with flags at half staff, black mourning bands over officer badges and ceremonies around the county. Here is a list of a couple of ceremonies taking place this week:
Bakersfield Police Department
The Bakersfield Police Department will hold a ceremony at its headquarters at 1601 Truxtun beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday. During Thursday's ceremony, BPD will be adding the name of Sgt. Dennis Moore to the BPD's memorial. Moore died from a medical event last August.
Kern County Sheriff's Office
A ceremony by the Kern County Sheriff's Office is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Sheriff's Office Memorial Monument at Sheriff's Headquarters, 1350 Norris Road in Bakersfield. During this period of observance, deputies will be wearing black mourning bands over their badges, and flags at Sheriff's Office facilities will be flown at half-staff.
California Highway Patrol
The California Highway Patrol will hold a ceremony at noon at the Kern County Peace Officer's Memorial, 1415 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield. A 21-gun salute, honor guard, bagpipes, buglers and a flyover by CHP helicopter.
