BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. — Several campsites along the Kern Canyon were vandalized, according to Kern River Conservancy, a local non-profit organization.
The conservancy group took photos at those campsites Sunday showing graffiti and various painted figures on rocks near the Kern River, before they cleaned it up.
Gary Ananian, a member of the non-profit, said warmer weather is encouraging more people to camp out along the river. More trash may be left behind as a result, Ananian added.
Ananian said the conservancy group teams up with forest service crews to clean up trash, educate campers how to properly dispose of waste and put out camp fires.
