BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County Public Health Services is set to host its 2019 mental health symposium with a focus on overcoming PTSD.

It is estimated that 30% of first responders will suffer from PTSD as compared with 20% in the general population. The goal of this event is to provide information to assist first responders and community members in recognizing the signs and symptoms of depression caused by PTSD.

The event takes place on Tuesday at the Bakersfield College indoor auditorium from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
