MOJAVE, Calif. — Kern County Public Works is breaking ground on a new Mojave Transit Center.

Kern Transit is expanding to a new Mojave Transit Center, which will be located at 16302 K Street in Mojave.

Currently, two of Kern Transit's busiest routes pass through Mojave. Public Works says the current bus stop on Inyo Street, just east of Sierra Highway, has extremely limited curb space, causing congestion when multiple buses are arriving at the same time, and limited space for shelter and restroom facilities.

Public Works says the new Mojave Transit Center is expected to alleviate these issues, featuring four full-size bus bays, restrooms, protective air-conditioned shelters with seating, and electronic bus arrival information signs.

Once completed, the new transit center will be served by Kern Transit fixed routes, Eastern Sierra Transit Authority, and Amtrak.

Public Works will be breaking ground on the new center at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27.
