UPDATE: According to Bakersfield Fire Department, three individuals were rescued. Officials say the two females and one male were riding in kayaks and inner-tubes along the river.
They were able to get themselves on to an island in the middle of river until crews were able to pull them to safety.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team is working to rescue multiple people from the Kern River, according to radio traffic.
The call came out around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Initial reports are that multiple people are stuck on an island in the Kern River near Lake Ming.
