The Kern County Coroner's office has released the cause of death for two men who were shot and killed in Lamont.

Officials said 21-year-old Carlos Gomez and 27-year-old Simon Prieto both died of gunshot wounds to the chest and both deaths were ruled as homicides.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office responded to Lamont on the night of Friday June 6 for reports of a shooting around 8:30 p.m. at Paradise Road near Waco  Avenue.

Deputies found one victim inside of a car and another outside of the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to KCSO.

Deputies say the suspect and victim vehicles were both moving prior to the shooting, and the suspects drove away after.

According to KCSO, there was a large crowd at the scene, which led to a person being arrested after a patrol car was damaged. Deputies said they don't believe that person was involved in the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to contact KCSO at 861-3110.
