On July 17, 2016, at about 2:02pm, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an unconscious victim of an overdose at 206 Beardsley Avenue in Oildale.
When deputies arrived, Kern County Fire personnel were already on scene and were performing CPR. Fire personnel advised deputies they believed the victim was overdosing on heroin. Deputies then administered department-issued Narcan.
Approximately 2-3 minutes later, the victim started breathing on her own and regained consciousness. The victim was then transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
This is the first instance Narcan has been utilized by Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the field to treat a person overdosing on an opiate.
