The Kern County Sheriffs Office is warning the public about a phone scam involving a suspect claiming to be associated with a local church.

According to KCSO, the suspect calls claiming to be a member of the Sacred Heart Church parish and requests donations of gift cards for other members who are ill or in need. The church has confirmed that this suspect has no relation to their church or outreach.

KCSO says if you are contacted by this person, contact KCSO at 861-3110.

They also encourage anyone who wishes to donate to any organization should contact that organization themselves to avoid being a victim of a scam.
