Kern County Sheriff's Office arrests one man following armed robbery in East Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: KCSO Deputies found and arrested 37 year old Jaime Gonzalez in the overnight hours Friday.

Gonzalez approached two people sitting in their vehicle and broke their window. He held them at gunpoint and pistol whipped one of the victims. He then attempted to shoot one of the victims, but his gun malfunctioned.

The victim had minor injuries.

Gonzalez then stole a cell phone and fled. He later discarded the stolen phone and a handgun, both of which were found by deputies.

After searching for multiple hours, KCSO officials received a citizen tip that helped them find Gonzalez in an alley near Valencia and Rosewood.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked for multiple charges including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office set up a perimeter in East Bakersfield Friday night as deputies searched for a robbery suspect.

According to KCSO, just before 10 p.m. they received a call for a robbery in the area of Niles St. & Valencia Dr. Officials say the suspect robbed a person.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene and located a potential suspect in the area. Deputies blocked off a portion of Valencia Drive as they searched for the suspect.

Around midnight, KCSO confirmed with 23ABC that they were unable to track down the suspect, but did recover the loss from the robbery victim and recovered a handgun they believe belonged to the suspect.
