BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — For kids who need some summer plans, the Bakersfield Baseball Academy and Pinnacle Performance Institute are teaming up to offer tuition free summer courses.

Aimed for grades kindergarten through eighth, kids can sign up to take academic courses from a charter school based in thousand oaks and participate in physical enrichment courses. The enrichment courses range from baseball, soccer, softball and more and equipment will be loaned out to those who need it.

Kyle Jean who is in charge of youth development at the Bakersfield Baseball Academy wants local kids to stay active and keep their minds sharp this summer.

“You get out of school in a normal year, you spend all summer playing, don’t really pick up a book, so what this program does is really prepares kids to enter the next year be reviewing the current grade," he said.

The courses are tuition free and he's currently working with the Kern High School District to allow high schoolers to earn school credits if they take these courses.

“You will complete the academic portion through the charter school, simultaneously we’ll be giving out equipment, you’ll get videos and lessons, with the equipment in your backyard or home.”
