Kern County's unemployment rate has reached its lowest point since October 2006, according to numbers released by the Employment Development Department (EDD).
According to the EDD, the Kern County unemployment rate reached 6.6% in September, down from 7.2% in August. At that time, the California unemployment rate was 3.9%, with the national rate being 3.6%. This time last year, Kern County's unemployment rate was 7.2%.
According to the EDD, Kern County added 4,100 new jobs from last September and 5,000 jobs from August to September of this year. This is the third straight month of declining unemployment rates for the county.
The EDD also add Taft and Ridgecrest have Kern County's lowest unemployment rate at 3.1%. While Delano has the highest at 14.4%.
