The Kern High School District addressed the district's future staffing needs Wednesday night in a community forum.
"It's not just Kern County, it’s a national issue. Throughout the state of California, we need about 22,000 teachers every year to join the ranks of educators," said Michael Zulfa. "Unfortunately we only have about 11,000 teachers who actually become teachers.”
According to KHSD, the district filled 271 positions, but are still in need.
It also plan to diversify their staff. KHSD reports that 67% of new hires are white, 24% Hispanic or Latino and 4% African American.
