The Army Corp. of Engineers is working on a multi-phase project that will plug the Borel Canal, and eventually help protect citizens downstream of Lake Isabella in the event of a catastrophic earthquake.
Tonight, 23ABC's Mike Boyce spoke with the officials working on the project who say this will help extend the life the dam for at least another 50 years. Part of the project will also add 16 ft. to the dam. The purpose of this will ensure the dams capacity will be greater to avoid overfill.
The Army Corp. plans to hold additional meetings before the project goes underway.
