LAPD Chief hurt in Tehachapi mountains recovering

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck is recovering after fracturing his pelvis in an off-road motorcycle accident in the Tehachapi mountains.

According to our affiliate, KABC, the crash happened Saturday while beck was riding with friends.

The police chief was able to ride back to his truck and drive to a hospital to receive medical attention.

Beck may undergo surgery tomorrow and is expected to return to the office within a week.

He tweeted on Saturday, "Thank you all for the outpouring of concern and support. A terrible accident happened while doing something that I love very much. I'll be actively involved in day-to-day operations as I continue to heal. See you soon."
