A Los Angeles Police Department officer who was shot to death in Whittier worked on the Derrick Rose case as well as other cases, police said.
The coroner identified the officer as Nadine Hernandez, a 44-year-old resident of Whittier.
LAPD confirmed to Eyewitness News that Hernandez was an investigating officer on the Rose case as well as other cases. She was assigned to LAPD's robbery homicide division, police said.
The shooting occurred in Hernandez's home in the 8400 block of Via Sierra Ramal Tuesday afternoon.
Whittier police said responding officers found Hernandez suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
She was transported to Whittier Presbyterian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.
According to Whittier police, there were no signs of foul play, and Hernandez's death was being investigated as a suicide.
